Holland re-signs for Swinton as Ashall moves on
Neil Holland has signed up for his third season with Swinton.
The 27-year-old prop becomes the 12th player to agree terms for the 2013 campaign.
Holland came through the ranks at Wigan and joined the Lions after a loan spell at Blackpool.
His first season with the club was disrupted by an ankle injury but he became a key member of the squad last term.
“We are delighted that Neil has agreed to return for another season,” said director of rugby Paul Kidd.
“He is an excellent player and a top team man and we always wanted to get him back on board.”
Coach Steve McCormack hopes to re-sign at least one more player from last year’s pack and is in talks with another experienced forward.
“Our priority is obviously making sure our forwards are up to scratch and that’s what we’re looking at at the moment,” he said.
The current Lions squad is as follows: Chaz I’Anson, Martin Ainscough, Darren and Ritchie Hawkyard, Mark Smith, Kevin Penny, Alex Hurst, Chris Clarke, Sam Reay, Neil Holland, Andy Ballard, Josh Barlow.
Hooker Karl Ashall has teamed up with his brother Craig at Halifax. Ashall joined the Lions from St Helens two years ago and was targeted by Halifax coach Karl Harrison after two top displays against the Yorkshire side last season.
He wants him to replace long-serving hooker Sean Penkywicz, who has signed for Leigh.
Harrison said: ”He’s someone I’ve had in mind for a while and I know he’s keen to take this opportunity.
“He’s a good player who we feel we can improve and develop.”
