Agoro opts for Oldham move

Barrie McDermott has helped former Leeds youngster Mo Agoro land a deal at Championship 1 side Oldham.

Agoro, 19, was left out in the cold following the re-structuring of the academy system and the Rhinos Head of Youth pointed him in the direction of the Roughyeds.

He said: “I took into account what Barrie (McDermott) said of Oldham, and the club seemed really keen to sign me, so here I am. It’s a new challenge for me after three years at Leeds. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Though the family home is in Leeds, he is temporarily based in Huddersfield as a student at the university there, working on a three-year course in exercise, physical activity and health.”

Born to a Nigerian father and a Caribbean mother, Agoro was also attracting interest from Sheffield and Dewsbury, but opted to sign a one-year deal at the Whitebank Stadium.

He played as a junior at amateur clubs Drighlington and Hunslet Warriors before spending three years at the Rhinos.

He added: “I’m most at home on the wing, but I’ve also played quite a lot at centre and in the second-row.

“My ambition is to get back into Super League one day and make it big at that level.”

He becomes the sixth back in Scott Naylor’s squad for 2013, joining long-serving Neil Roden, Jamie Dallimore, Chris Murphy, Steven Nield and new signing Dale Bloomfield, as well as forwards Josh Crowley and Liam Thompson.
