Lyon denies “ridiculous” Titans move

Manly playmaker Jamie Lyon says he has no intention of taking up a “ridiculous” four year deal offered to him by Gold Coast.

The 30-year-old centre received an approach from Titans bosses last week, in a bid to lure him away from Brookvale ahead of the NRL season.

But the Sea Eagles quickly released a statement quashing the rumours, which was followed up by an open letter from Lyon to fans, pledging his future to the club.

“The Titans had approached Manly and my manager about me joining them,” said Lyon.

“On Thursday night my manager contacted me with an offer of four years, starting immediately.

“He asked me to think about it for half an hour as it was such a big offer. Actually it was quite ridiculous.

“I can tell you right now that I did not need the half hour to think about it. I was never going to the Gold Coast.”

Lyon, who is contracted to the Sea Eagles until the end of next season, also denies newspaper speculation that the approach has been engineered in order to negotiate an improved deal.

“I love this club and I’m proud every time I put on the Manly jersey,” added Lyon.

“The last 24 hours have just shown what a tight-knit group we are, with the support I have received from my teammates.

“I trust all Manly fans can see through some of the rubbish that has been reported and know I’m 100% committed to this club.”
