Dons not just making up the numbers
Doncaster boss Tony Miller has sent out a strong message to his Championship opponents by saying his team are not in the division to make up the numbers.
The Dons earned promotion through lifting the Championship One crown last season, beating Barrow Raiders 16-13 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Doncaster are joined in the Championship by losing finalists Barrow, Workington Town and Whitehaven as the division expands to 14 teams.
Miller is relishing the prospect of causing a number of shocks and mixing it with the more established teams of the division.
He said: “We are aiming for mid table. Ideally we need to be beating the other teams we have gone up with.
“In a way, you could say there are two separate divisions in the Championship with the likes of Featherstone, Leigh, Sheffield and Halifax around the top whilst Hunslet, York and the rest of the teams make up the remainder of the positions.
“We had a magnificent season just gone and we’re not out there to make up the numbers. We will be going out there looking to cause a few shocks.”
The Dons return to the second tier of rugby league after their relegation in 2009.
