Craig Mullen “buzzing” to get going in Super League with Leigh
Leigh’s new signing Craig Mullen is eager to show what he and the Centurions can do in Super League this season.
The 22-year-old has joined Leigh on a permanent deal from neighbours Wigan for 2021.
Mullen had already agreed to sign for the Centurions before they won their bid to become Super League’s 12th club for 2021, so Super League status was a welcome bonus for him.
“Leigh asked me to sign for them (when they were in the Championship) so getting the call to go into Super League was like the cherry on top,” Mullen said.
“I was looking forward to the year ahead with Leigh anyway and getting some good game time under my belt in the Championship because it’s a tough competition but for us to go into Super League now – I’m buzzing.
“I didn’t know what to expect for myself (in 2021). I was working for Amazon for a bit last year and I thought that would be the kind of life I’d be living for the next 12 months or so, picking shifts up here and there as well as playing. It was a bit of a relief really because I’ve always wanted to have a good crack at Super League.
“There’s a good vibe around the club. We are not just going to roll over this year. We are there to compete and that’s why John (Duffy) and the club have put this team together.”
Character building year.
Lesgooooo 2021 🤠 Happy new year, especially my friends, family and the super league leythers! @LeighCenturions

Mullen will bring plenty of versatility to John Duffy’s side this season, with the Wigan academy product being able to play full-back, wing, centre, half-back or hooker.
“I will (play anywhere),” Mullen said. “I’m just looking for game time with Leigh. I’ve told John I will put my hand up wherever that may be.
“I don’t think I’ve ever played a first-grade game in what I feel my own position is at full-back. Hopefully I will get a shot at that but I’d play anywhere – wing, centre, hooker or wherever.”
Mullen has made 30 first team appearances to date for Wigan, Swinton (loan), London Skolars (loan) and Leigh (loan).
