Raiders sack Dugan

Canberra bosses have taken the extraordinary decision to sack star full back Josh Dugan.

Raiders board members met today to determine the future of Dugan and centre Blake Ferguson, who were punished this week after flouting the club’s alcohol ban.

Dugan’s NRL contract will be terminated immediately while Ferguson has been fined $10,000, stood down and ordered to undergo counselling.

The pair were pictured on image sharing website Instagram drinking alcohol on Tuesday, just a day after appearing in the Raiders’ opening round defeat at Penrith.

In a statement released on Thursday, Raiders bosses said Ferguson would only be re-instated when he had made “satisfactory progress”.

“After being presented with a number of breaches in club policy by Josh the board decided that they had no choice but to terminate his NRL contract,” Raiders chief executive Don Furner said.

“The club must take into account our players, members and Sponsors and the damage to our clubs brand.

Blake Ferguson will remain with the club, but will be stood down from playing until he has shown progress in a number of areas.”
