Lions coach: I have to do what I feel best for Swinton

Swinton coach Gary Chambers says he has to do what he feels is best for the club, in light of criticism over the inclusion of Lee Briers in his squad for Thursday’s game against Whitehaven.

Briers, 34, is the most high-profile player to have been utilised via the controversial new dual-registration system, brought in at the start of this season.

The Warrington stand-off will make his comeback from injury in the Championship match at Leigh Sports Village, and it has led to yet more criticism of the system.

Chambers said: “I know some people are not happy with the dual registration system as it stands but I have to do what I feel is best for Swinton.

“When I knew he was available I talked about it with Tony, Ian and Marlon Billy (assistant coach) and decided it was the right thing for us to take that opportunity.

“We have a very young team here and a small squad.

“Having Lee in our side will offer those players guidance and we can use it as a learning tool.

“He has so much experience which he can pass on to our young lads and I feel it is something that can move us forward.”

Briers will be standing in for his former Wales international team-mate Ian Watson, who is out for five weeks following knee surgery.
