Sheffield are pleased to announce Andrew Henderson has signed a new one-year extension to his contract.

Henderson, 34, joined the Eagles towards the end of the 2010 season from Barrow, and since coming to Sheffield he has gone on to become Player Performance Manager at the club, working with the Academy side. He is also now the head coach of the newly formed Sheffield Hallam Eagles side.

Originally from Torquay, the hooker has represented Scotland and also helped Castleford gain promotion to Super League on two separate occasions during his career.

Speaking of his new deal, that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2014 season, Henderson said, “I’ve really enjoyed my time at the Eagles so far, it’s a family club and there is a great team spirit within the squad.

“I’ve enjoyed combining playing and my role off the field at the club, working within the player performance pathway and I’m glad I’ve penned this new deal.”

Eagles head coach Mark Aston added, “Hendo is a great asset for the club both on and off the field, he’s a smart and wise player that many of our younger players can learn a lot from.

“Some people may say that at 34, that perhaps we should be looking at younger players and we are, alongside ensuring we have senior players like Andrew to fit in the squad alongside these.

“Henderson is still in fantastic shape and in great form. Look at Steve Menzies at Catalan, nearly 40 years old, but still a fantastic player competing at Super League level.”
