Gentle: Miller is improving

Hull FC coach Peter Gentle believes half-back Jacob Miller is starting to grow into the player the club needs.

Miller, 20, featured for the fourth time in Saturday’s Challenge Cup win in France, giving his best performance to date.

The young Australian enjoyed his most carries and passes in a game, taking on the line for the Black and Whites more frequently.

Playing alongside Aaron Heremaia once again, with Hull’s two other recognised half-backs Daniel Holdsworth and Richard Horne out injured, Gentle believes Miller will improve further when he gets a regular partner alongside him.

“Jacob had his most touches in France since he’s been with us and he’s starting to get his hands on the ball more,” said Gentle.

“He’s feeling more and more confident. I keep saying he will be better next year but we need to get the best out of him that we can for this year too.

“When we have Daniel Holdsworth or Richard Horne back it will help give Jacob more direction.”

With the former Wests Tigers player still finding his way in the side, Gentle says hard work and extensive video sessions are helping their new scrum-half.

He said, “We are spending more time on the field, having video sessions, reviewing the work we are doing and then getting back on the field again.

“The players are all still learning to play with Jacob and he’s still learning to play with us.

“If we can get a settled spine it makes it easier, but no excuses, we know we need to be better in attack.”
