Oldham pile pressure on

With Oldham and North Wales locked in a two-way race for automatic Championship One promotion, last weekend’s match between the sides saw the Roughyeds’ take a healthy stride towards the finishing line.

The Greater Manchester outfit’s magnificent 28-10 win against the Crusaders extended their lead at the top to five points.

Another positive for Oldham was their Whitebank crowd of 1,209 – twice their average attendance and the best this year in the division.

The visitors, who brought 150 of their own fans, are still in pole position with two games in hand but there is now no room for them to drop further points in their five remaining fixtures.

Even with that in mind Roughyeds head coach Scott Naylor says his players will be focusing on nothing but themselves in the end of season run-in.

He said, “We’ve got to put the Crusaders game out of our minds now. It’s not relevant any more.

“All we can do is concentrate on what’s ahead of us and hope that somebody does us a favour.

“We’ll take one game at a time, and what will be will be.”
