Fourth NRL player commits to Scotland
Gold Coast Titans prop Luke Douglas is the latest NRL player to commit to Scotland for the World Cup.
Douglas, 27, is the fourth uncapped star from Down Under to confirm his availability, following Peter Wallace (Brisbane), James McManus (Newcastle) and Kane Linnett (North Queensland).
He takes the place of recently retired prop Jack Howieson.
Coach Steve McCormack said: “It’s fantastic to have Luke join us. He’s currently playing regularly in the NRL despite dealing with the loss of his mother recently, and that shows his strength of character. You don’t get to play every round of the NRL for about six years, as Luke has done, unless you’re a fantastic player and a fantastic professional.”
Douglas, whose younger brother Kane plays rugby union for New South Wales and Australia, has made more than 180 appearances in the NRL for the Titans and former club Cronulla.
McCormack also expressed his delight at seeing three of his players help Huddersfield to the top of Super League.
He was at the DW Stadium on Friday night to see Danny Brough, Dale Ferguson and Joe Wardle help the Giants to a 30-12 win over Wigan, to extend their lead at the top to three points.
McCormack added: “It’s fantastic for Scotland to see these three play so well all season. They’re all in great form and looking strong. I can’t wait to start working with them with the Scotland squad.”
