CH preview: Workington v Keighley (Wed)

Workington Town coach Gary Charlton hopes to be boosted by the return of Jarrad Stack and Brett Carter for Wednesday’s Kingstone Press Championship clash with Keighley Cougars.

However, Elliott Miller is expected to miss out for Town. Charlton said: “It’s a tough ask, but we have no choice other than to get on with it.”

Cougars player-coach Paul March, who was crowned the competition’s Player of the Week for his role in Keighley’s 52-18 win at Whitehaven on Sunday, is set to shuffle his team to keep players fresh during a grueling week.

Paul White, Olly Pursglove, James Haley, Elliot Cosgrove, Ben Sagar and Scott Leatherbarrow are all available to face Workington.

March said: “It’s a demanding week, having three games in eight days, but we’re trying to take that out of it.

“We’ve prepared well, we’ve got a fit squad and we’re going up to Workington early on Wednesday to give ourselves the best possible preparation.”

March is hoping for a similar display to the one that saw off Whitehaven.

“It was probably the first time all year we’ve played for the full 80 minutes,” he said. “We set our stall out early with plenty of aggression and we want the same again this week.

“Mathematically we’re not safe yet, but other teams have got to play as well. We’re looking at how to get into the eight. That’s been our goal all season and we’re still chasing it.”
