Academy prospect extends Giants deal

Huddersfield have extended the contract of utility back Jake Connor until the end of the 2016 season.

Connor, 18, scored three tries on his international debut for England this year, and has starred for the Giants’ under nineteen side at full back and centre.

He was out of contract at the end of 2014 and the club’s Managing Director, Richard Thewlis, is delighted to have secured his future.

Thewlis said, “We were aware other clubs were very keen to sign Jake so we moved early on to extend his stay with us for a further two seasons.

“He is a very talented player as was shown by his international appearance and he has been training full time this year for which he is now starting to show the benefits physically and of course being alongside our senior group can only help him.

“The path to Super League can be a long hard road for a youngster but Jake now has some long term security and his next goal should be to make his Super League debut.

“It would be particularly pleasing for all the development staff here should he do that as many coaches and conditioners have put literally hundreds of hours into helping Jake get to where he now is.”

Former Siddal amateur Connor had this to say, “I am delighted to have a longer term deal as training full time has been tough but the lads have helped me adjust to the demands of being a professional and I reckon if I follow their habits and advice I can keep going forward.

“There are lots of great players at the club and plenty in front of me but with another off season I hope to be able to play a higher level and contribute more to the nineteen’s and hopefully first team too.”
