Championship clubs on stand-by to take Super League place

Clubs at the top of the Championship remain on stand-by to step up to Super League next season if required.

Mystery continues to surround the future of London Broncos, while Wakefield are also embroiled in financial difficulty of their own.

But it was reports in the Yorkshire press this week regarding Bradford that brought the issue to light again, with the Bulls’ recent takeover yet to be ratified by the RFL.

According to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, the RFL’s Director of Standards and Licensing Blake Solly confirmed that Featherstone, Halifax, Sheffield and Leigh would be willing to replace the Bulls in Super League should the unlikely event occur that the RFL refuse to ratify the change of ownership.

Featherstone director Ken Jones confirmed to Love Rugby League: “It’s public knowledge that we have put ourselves in the shop window, in the event that we are requested by the RFL to fulfil the fixtures of any SL club unable to continue.

“This would not be ideal for either party, but we have the playing capability to be competitive, a sound business which is bucking the trend in growth and attendances.  

“Ground improvements are almost complete, with a training facility second to none.

“This coupled with an excellent shareholder in Fiesal and the passion of our Chairman, we would add significant value to the (Super League) brand.”
