Mendeika joins Featherstone
Featherstone have signed former Warrington centre James Mendeika on a two-year deal.
Mendeika, 21, worked with new Rovers head coach John Bastian at the Wolves, and spent last season with Swinton Lions, and also had a spell on loan at London Broncos.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining Featherstone Rovers. It’s an amazing opportunity to join such an ambitious club who have a strong desire to play Super League rugby in the very near future. This desire matches my own and I can’t wait to start the new season and begin driving towards that together.
“It will be great to work with John Bastian whom I already have a really good relationship with and having already met some of the lads I am even more eager to get underway.”
Mendeika is currently with the Ireland squad preparing for the World Cup, which gets underway later this month.
Bastian said: “James is another young and very ambitious person with is best playing years ahead of him. He will add quality to the very youthful and yet experienced Featherstone Rovers squad. He has a very good attitude to training and is prepared to do the extra skills in his own time away from the club which I like in a player.
“James is a strong defender and has good speed and smart skills in offence, he is always looking to improve himself personally and professionally and will add lots of enthusiasm to the squad.”
