Luke Lewis ruled out for rest of World Cup
Luke Lewis has been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup after dislocating his shoulder in the 32-4 win over Fiji.
Lewis, 30, collided with a pitchside board at the end of a chase to the in goal during the second half and coach Tim Sheens confirmed that it would be the end of the Cronulla forward’s tour.
Sheens said: “He’s dislocated his left shoulder. It took a bit of time to get it back in, but they’ve sorted it, but it’s definitely the end of his tour.
“He’s a great tourist, a great member of the squad, the boys love him and obviously he can play, so it’s going to be a big loss to us.
“It was when he hit the signage.
“The boys are all pretty concerned for him. He’ll recover from it, it’s not a career threatening injury, it’s just disappointing it’s the end of his tournament.”
Australia may now look to bring in a replacement in their 24-man squad to replace Lewis.
Sheens added: “That’s being looked, but I’m uncertain of the rules. I think for a serious injury like that we’re hoping it will.”
Lewis injury soured what had been a good night at the office for Australia, who overcame a stern Fiji performance to run in six tries.
