Arundel looking forward to 2014

Hull FC centre Joe Arundel came through his first competitive match for nearly five months on Sunday, and scored a try in the process.

Arundel, 22, suffered injuries to his knee and hand in 2013, but after working hard in the off-season he is looking forward to fighting for his place in the Black and Whites side.

His chances of doing so will not have been harmed by his performance in the 16-16 draw with Championship side Doncaster, but Arundel is taking it slow.

“I’ve not played since August so I managed to get some decent minutes under my belt and hopefully that will stand me in good stead,” he said.

“But, first of all, I just want to push for my place in the squad. I want to show people what I’m made of and have a decent 2014.

“Hopefully I can go injury free, I’ve had my fair share in recent years and that’s something I want to put behind me.”

Over the winter Arundel has put on almost five kilos due to his efforts in the gym, something he is hoping to see the benfits of.

He said, “I’ve had a full pre-season which I haven’t had in a couple of years, so hopefully that will be good for me out on the field.

The former Castleford man has made over 50 Super League appearances in his career to date, scoring 23 tries.
