Former Hull KR and Widnes forward Tandy found dead

Former Hull KR, Widnes and Whitehaven prop Ryan Tandy has been found dead at his parents’ home in Australia.

Tandy, 32, was banned for life from the NRL after being found guilty of match fixing in 2010.

He also played for Barrow and Doncaster in the National Leagues, and played for Ireland at the 2008 World Cup.

It was in 12 Super League appearances for Hull KR in 2007 that he caught the eye of NRL clubs, and he moved to Wests in 2008, before spending two seasons with Melbourne, playing in the 2009 NRL Grand Final victory against Parramatta, although the title was later stripped from the Storm due to salary cap breaches.

He finished his career at Canterbury, making 12 appearances between June 2010 and his sacking in March 2011.

In October 2011, Tandy was found to be guilty of manipulating the first scoring point of the game against North Queensland Cowboys in August 2010, giving away a penalty in front of the posts early on, although the Cowboys ignored the chance at goal and scored a try instead.
