Championship One Preview: London Skolars, Gloucestershire All Golds

New Gloucestershire All Golds coach Steve McCormack says he can’t wait for Sunday’s Kingstone Press Champioship One trip to London Skolars.

Scotland coach McCormack said: “I’ve missed club rugby and it’s great to be back.

“Gloucestershire is a bit of an unknown quantity to a lot of people, but the structure and facility is first class. Now we’re trying to improve on the field, and it’s a really interesting challenge.”

He added: “We’ve had a session getting to know the players, seeing what they’re doing well and what needs improvement.

“I’ve been told about our boys’ enthusiasm and skill, and the table probably doesn’t reflect how well they’ve been playing. There’s a lot of raw talent, plus some experienced guys here, so it’s an exciting mix.”

McCormack has been dealt an early blow with the news that Mark Barlow is facing an extended spell on the sidelines with a broken ankle.

But loan signing Casey Canterbury will definitely make his All Golds debut against the Skolars on Sunday after joining on an initial one-month deal.

Skolars coach Joe Mbu is looking to prevent a third successive defeat, having lost against York City Knights and Gateshead Thunder already this month.
