Lovegrove revels in Rovers underdog tag

Hull KR utility forward Rhys Lovegrove believes his team’s good progress continues to be igored by many in Super League.

Despite a tough start to the season, Rovers have looked stronger in recent weeks, and produced a strong performance to defeat neighbours Hull FC at Magic Weekend.

Lovegrove is unsurprised that pundits contiue to play up the chances of other teams rather than his own, however.

“I think we’re always seen as a nothing team,” Lovegrove told Love Rugby League.

“I’ve been here a fair while now, and I’ve never seen anyone talk up how good Rovers are.

“Even when we came fourth, everyone seemed to be slagging us off, it’s just the way it seems to be.

“We only take it a week at a time. We’re quietly confident with our squad. We’ve got a tight-knit group of boys. If we can learn to play a bit smarter than we might get a few more good results.

“If we can start doing that, then we’ll see where that ends.”

Next for Lovegrove and Rovers is a clash with London Broncos, on Sunday at the KC Lightstream Stadium. The Broncos ran Catalan Dragons close at Magic, and Lovegrove knows that KR cannot take the southerners lightly.

“We’ve got a London team who are improving every week. They’ve really improved in terms of where they were at the start of the year,” he added

“They’ll pick up a few wins sooner or later, so we’re going to have to really rip in and make sure it’s not this week.”
