Carter frustrated by Workington’s failure at Sheffield
Workington Town winger Brett Carter is annoyed that his team repeated their familiar mistakes, and lost at Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.
The Cumbrian outfit were losing 30-12 at one stage in the second half, before pulling it back to 30-30. Eagles won the game with a late drop goal and then a try on the hooter.
“It’s very tough. It’s been the same sort of thing every single week, really,” the Scotland winger told Love Rugby League.
“We’ve been coming close against every team we’ve played against – I think we’ve picked up about ten bonus points now.
“It’s hard to take. But it’s our own fault for not sticking to our game plan, and going away from what we’re good at.”
“I thought we were more than capable of going on to win the game,” he said.
“But we worry about our game plan more than anything, but it came down to how we handled the last few minutes, that was when we lost the game.
“It’s our fault really.”
There was talk that Wigan Warriors star Josh Charnley would turn out for Town on Sunday on a dual registration deal. The England winger did not appear, however, but Carter insisted that the rumours had not affected the team.
“I don’t know what the crack is with that, really,” he said.
“We just see who comes up from Wigan each week. We normally have the same group of players, which is good, because they gel with the team really well.
“We just worry about what the team is when it gets named, and then we try and stick to our game plan, and worry about ourselves.
“The Wigan boys are good players, they come from a good background. It’s the same every year with dual reg, we get a few in every year.
“The longer we have them, the better they gel with the team. It’s good to have them, the same group of players each time.”
