All change at Fev as Siejka signs
Featherstone Rovers have been busy in the transfer market in recent days, and have snapped up Australian halfback Harry Siejka from Wakefield Wildcats.
The former Australian Schoolboys international has joined on an initial month’s loan, with the potential in place to extend the deal until the end of the current season.
The Polish-Australian has also played Penrith Panthers, St George-Illawarra Dragons and the New Zealand Warriors. He joined Wakefield in March 2014, but has struggled to make an impact so far, playing eight games for Trinity.
“This is another sign of our ambition and commitment to bringing Super League quality players to Featherstone Rovers,” said Rovers majority shareholder Feisal Nahaboo.
“Over the past two weeks we have delayed new signings to focus on long-term contracts with existing squad members but the opportunity to bring Siejka to Rovers was too good to turn down, especially with the injury to Gareth Moore.
“He joined Penrith Panthers in 2008 for a then record deal for a 16 year old which shows the potential quality of the player.
“I think people are really starting to take notice of Featherstone Rovers and we will succeed in our ambition and the statements so far barely scratch the surface. The club has made prudent signings meaning we are under the wage cap, yet we have more quality arrivals to announce in due course.”
Featherstone has also confirmed that Josh Sunley, Jamel Chisholm and Colton Roche have all been released from the club, too.
Tommy Saxton has also been released, and looks set to join Halifax, where he has been on loan, on a more permanent basis.
Keegan Hirst has left Featherstone to re-join Batley on loan. Terms have also been agreed with Doncaster RLFC for Liam Walmsley to go on monthly loan to South Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, Rovers also confirmed in an official statement that they had had bids for Danny Brough, Brett Ferres and Eorl Crabtree, all international players, turned down.
“The club can confirm that Huddersfield have rejected a treble transfer offer for Crabtree, Ferres and Brough and no further approach will be made,” read the statement.
