Featherstone chasing Super League targets
Featherstone Rovers have revaled that they are in the hunt to bring a genuine Super League star to the club.
Majority shareholder Feisal Nahaboo told reporters at a press conference this week that Leon Pryce, currently at Catalan Dragons, is a major target.
“According to his agent we are in the front-running, but Leon Pryce has not made a decision,” said Nahaboo.
Rovers could also be bringing a big name in from Huddersfield, though Nahahboo would not confirm his identity.
“They know we are serious,” Nahaboo added.
“As a result we believe a marquee player will come across from Huddersfield Giants to Featherstone for next year.
“Huddersfield have been very, very supportive to our ambitions, as have Hull and Wakefield.”
Warrington’s Australian hooker Michael Monaghan was also offered a deal with Fev, but has turned it down.
“We did look at Michael Monaghan, and we’d had meetings with him and his agent regarding a move,” Nahaboo explained.
“We put a package to Michael that we thought he would take and come across. It would have been very good for this club, because we needed that marquee signing to look up to and rally around.
“He would have been assistant coach as well as a player, but it fell through. I don’t know whether that was because he hurt his calf or anything, but we know he won’t be coming this season.”
“We are asking for supporters’ patience. We have got a settled squad now, which is pretty much in place for this season and the next.
“The players are very much behind [coach] Andy Hay, so give him some time. The team can’t gel straight away, but the reason we have made fundamental changes in mid-season is so we are gelled and ready for the first game of next season.”
