Sammut joins Featherstone on dual-registration
Featherstone Rovers have revealed that Jarrod Sammut has joined the club on dual-registration, and could play against North Wales Crusaders this weekend.
Rovers coach Andy Hay is pleased to add such a high-quality recruit to his squad.
“I’m delighted that Jarrod has joined the club and he will go straight into the seventeen on Sunday,” said Hay.
“He will add significant quality and experience to our side.”
Meanwhile, backrower Liam Walmsley and threequarter Lewis Price have both joined Championship one outfit Hunslet Hawks on a month-long loan deal.
“The move to Hunslet for Liam and Lewis will do them both good,” Hay explained.
“Liam is recovering from injury and needs some game time under his belt to help his recovery to full fitness.
“This is also a good opportunity for Lewis to show what he can do at a higher standard than he is used to and will provide valuable experience for him and aid his development.”
The dual-registration deal with Wakefield has been put in place recently, and Featherstone Rovers Chief Executive Craig Poskitt explained that it is part of majority shareholder Feisal Nahaboo’s grand plan to turn Fev into a Super League club.
“This has already allowed us to bring in some quality players such as Kyle Trout who will be signing permanently and we are keen to sign Chris Annakin long term,” said Poskitt.
“We’ve had to make substantial changes to the squad to give us the best chance this season of finishing in the top two of the Kingstone Press Championship but people must remember it is next year where our focus is.
“We are building a team to gain promotion to Super League. Inevitably, that means there has to be changes.
“There has been a lot of speculation regarding other players we are interested in and we can confirm we were keen to sign the three Huddersfield players and we have lodged a substantial offer for Leon Pryce for 2015.”
