Brambani seeks Sheffield bounce

Dominic Brambani believes that Sheffield Eagles can make the top six of the Championship this season.

They must, however, find some rhythm and groove once again, if they are to challenge effectively, according to the scrum-half.

The Eagles managed only their third home league win of the season against North Wales Crusaders at Owlerton on Sunday

“It’s important for us. Everyone knows that we’ve not been playing that well at home this year,” Brambani told Love Rugby League.

“We just need to get back on that horse and win a couple of games, and we’ll bounce back up.

“We’re just playing well in spells at the moment, we haven’t got that complete performance which we need.

“Last week we had a real good game against Leigh, and then we came here today and we just played well in spells, so we need to get that full 80-minute performance.

“We’ve got it in us, we just need to get it out.”

Brambani also admitted that it was frustrating that the Eagles have not quite got into their groove of playing of effective, attractive and attacking rugby this year.

“It is a bit [frustrating], the Islander boys, Loto Tagaloa and QLT have been playing really well, and scoring good tries,” he aded.

“We need to spring a few plays together, and stick with it really.

“We’ve got the belief in the camp that we can actually get into the top six.

“We just need to string a few wins together now. We’ve got a tough game next week against Barrow, up there at their place, and it’s always tough to go there.

“But we’ve got the confidence now, we just need to kick on.”

Sheffield coach Mark Aston, meanwhile, was unhappy with the manner of his team’s performance in their 24-16 win. He still thinks his team are showing signs of mental weakness when it matters.

“I’m very disappointed, because at the end of the day, we should have rolled that game on,” he said.

“At 24-4 up we should have pushed on. We were soft.

“I’m not getting what I want. I’m not getting the game plan I’m asking for.

“So there’s other people waiting in the wings who might get an opportunity next week.”

New signing Kyle Briggs did make his debut for the Eagles, playing at loose forward before moving to stand-off late on.

“It was always going to be hard, he’s only had two sessions with us,” Aston added.

“But he’s made his debut got the monkey off his back, and now he can fit into the system.

“I wanted to ease him in, and let him play some time, then have a look at him at 6, and see what happens there.”

Sheffield centre Menzie Yere was replaced early on, having taken a knock to his knee. Aston confirmed that it was not an aggravation of the PNG international’s ACL problems, however.
