Goulding going nowhere

Barrow Raiders coach Bobbie Goulding has insisted that he is happy at the club, and has no plans to leave.

A 54-22 defeat to Rochdale Hornets at the weekend looks to have condemned the Raiders to relegation from the Championship this season.

The coach, however, maintains that Barrow is a stable club, and has the potential to improve significantly over the coming years.

“Barrow is a very good club which is well supported and a club which is debt-free,” Goulding told the North West Evening Mail.

“I’m very happy here and although contract talks are ongoing, I know my capabilities as a coach and I want to get a team playing my way.

“We know what we have to do to take the club forward and I want a team which is nice to watch but is also aggressive, and with my contacts in the game and with support from the board, we are going to make that happen.”

The often outspoken coach is also enthusiastic about the array of youthful talent now at his disposal in Cumbria.

“I’m going to give players such as Shane Toal and Joe Hambly (both Cumbria Academy players) a chance in the next few weeks,” he said.

“There are a few boys I’ve seen who can take the club forward and I’m going to give youth a chance to do that.”
