Six scrum-halves to watch in NRL in 2021
We’ve taken a look at six scrum-halves to watch in the NRL this season.
Mitchell Moses – Parramatta Eels
The 2020 season may not have been his best but when the 26-year-old finds top form he is easily Parramatta’s key man. The talented number seven has an incredible amount of talent with his kicking game and attacking flair his most standout traits and the Eels will undoubtedly be hoping he can rediscover that brilliant 2019 form going into 2021.
Daly Cherry Evans – Manly Sea Eagles
In a year full of key injuries for the Sea Eagles in 2020, Cherry-Evans showed again why he is not just one of best half-backs around but also one of the top leaders in the competition. As star players such as Dylan Walker and Tom Trbojevic were ruled out due to injury, the 32-year-old took on playmaking duties while carrying the weight of the club on his shoulders with some great displays. If the Sea Eagles leave last year’s injury woes behind them and also if the Australia international can continue his current form – the Northern Beaches side could easily find their way back into NRL finals contention this year.
George Williams – Canberra Raiders
It was an outstanding debut year for the 26-year-old as he answered all the questions as to how well he would cope in the NRL. Even without the likes of an injured Josh Hodgson, the 26-year-old helped steer the Raiders to the preliminary finals last year with his passing ability and strong kicking game standing out majorly. With Hodgson back for the 2021 season, it will be interesting to see how well they work together for a full season.
Adam Reynolds – South Sydney Rabbitohs
The South Sydney captain continues to be as consistent as ever and probably saw one of his best seasons to date in a Rabbitohs jersey in 2020. All the praise maybe with the likes of Cody Walker, Damien Cook and Latrell Mitchell right now but Reynolds’ ability is the glue that holds it all together while his goalkicking helps him standout among most half-backs in the league.
Jahrome Hughes – Melbourne Storm
After making the switch from full-back at the start of the year, the 26-year-old went on to fantastically stamp his authority at the number seven position. The New Zealand international sets himself him apart from many other scrum-halves with his ability to kick, pass and run all at an exceptionally high level.
Nathan Cleary – Penrith Panthers
The 22-year-old may have agonisingly missed out on the Dally M award and a Grand Final triumph last year but there is still no doubting his general influence on such a dominant Panthers team last year. There were plenty of questions asked as to how he would cope without James Maloney but they were certainly answered by the end of the season as he put together a great string of inspirational displays with his attacking prowess, kicking and game management seeing him become one of the best half-backs in the league.
Watch NRL and live stream every NRL game to keep up with how Tom Burgess, Josh Hodgson, Ryan Sutton, Elliott Whitehead, Luke Thompson and George Williams and all the others are getting on Down Under.
