Ridyard named Championship Player of the Week again

Leigh stand-off Martin Ridyard has become the first player to win the Kingstone Press Championship Player of the Week award in consecutive weeks.

Ridyard was once again prominent in a Centurions’ win, putting in a masterful display in the 36-6 win at Batley Bulldogs.

“Martyn has been a class above recently,” said Leigh coach Paul Rowley.

“Like any good orchestrating player, he comes up with the big plays when he needs to, whether that be a 40/20 kick or a key pass to put a player through a hole.

“He has great game sense, and that shows through at the times when it matters most.”

Meanwhile, Workington Town won the award for Performance of the Week. Town made it seven wins in a row with a Cumbrian derby win over Whitehaven, which took them to sixth place in the table.

“There was a lot riding on the game and we were grateful to be on the right side of the win,” said Veivers.

“Earlier this season the players didn’t know how to win – in tight games we couldn’t get over the finish line.

“But the turning point for us was the home game with Featherstone. I had my conditioner on the wing, Keiran McAvoy back in the side straight from uni and Kayle Connor on the bench but unable to play, just to make up the 17.”
