Burgess in tears as Rabbitohs revel in Grand Final glory

South Sydney Rabbitohs emerged victorious from a thrilling NRL Grand Final today, winning 30-6 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

Before the final whistle sounded, Rabbitohs’ iconic English forward Sam Burgess was seen breaking down in tears of emotion.

Burgess had clashed with England team-mate James Graham in the first tackle of the game, and played most of the encounter with a suspected broken cheek bone.

He even took the final conversion of the game, after Greg Inglis had rounded off the scoring with a fine try.

Graham himself was very much to the fore in the encounter, putting in some huge hits on various South Sydney men.

Sam’s brother George Burgess also enjoyed a fine game, crossing for the Rabbitohs’ second try.

“It’s the greatest feeling,” said Sam, who is now set to leave rugby league for the 15-man code.

“We did it for you the fans.”

Sam made 22 hit-ups in the game, gaining 195 metres. His brother George was not far behind, with 18 carries for 183m, while Tom Burgess also put in some fine work, carrying 16 times for 173m.

“I’m extremely proud,” added Greg Inglis.
