Rugby league continues to grow in North Wales

Commmunity work in North Wales is continuing to pay off, with 20 local schools now signed up to a local development programme.

The programme, which is backed by Wrexham and Flintshire councils, is supported by North Wales Crusaders, Glyndwr University and the Wales Rugby League.

Local Community rugby league coaches Adam Daniels and Allen Jones have been working hard recently. The duo have delivered 27 weekly sessions in both primary and secondary schools in the area.

They have also helped organise junior rugby league festivals at places like Rhyl and Colwyn Bay over the last year, something which has really helped the sport attract positive attention.

Another cycle of festivals is planned for 2015.

“The festivals are an ideal format to enable new players to get a taste of Rugby League,” said Jones.

“These festivals proved to be very popular in 2014, and the community clubs are doing a great job in attracting new players by holding taster sessions.

“The recent announcement of a partnership between North Wales Crusaders and Super League side Warrington Wolves should also prove a huge boost to the game locally, not only for the senior Crusaders squad but also at the local and community level as well.”
