Greg Inglis hints at NRL exit

South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar Greg Inglis has hinted that his days in the NRL may be numbered.

Reports in Australia have linked the Kangaroos full-back with a potentially financially lucrative move to French rugby union.

French RU club Lyon, who have an Australian coach in the shape of Tim Lane, are one of the teams who have been offered Inglis’s services, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“His manager has gone through an agent who works in France and is seeing if there is interest in him coming over to rugby [union],” said Lyon’s defensive coach, David Ellis.

“His name has been bandied about. I think the agent has gotten in contact with us because we’ve got Tim Lane as director of rugby, there’s myself as defence coach and we’ve got Scott Wisemantel, another former Australian rugby league player, on our staff as well.

“Obviously when his name was mentioned I said ‘yes’ but when we got to talking it was far too much for us. They were talking about 800,000 [euros].”

Inglis, 28, has now confirmed that he is open to offers, but that nothing has been set in stone as yet.

“I am never going to close doors. I leave everything open,” he told reporters this week, after arriving in Manchester for his team’s World Club Series clash with St Helens.

“You can always see what is on the other side. There is no harm in looking.

“I’m contracted to 2017 but I’m still looking at different options.

“Years pass that quick and we’re in 2015 now so I’m just keeping all the doors open and all my options open. There is no harm in looking around.”

One former team-mate of GI’s who has gone to union is, of course, Sam Burgess. Inglis confirmed that he has discussed the other code with Burgess.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of people about different areas of the sporting arena,” he said.

“Sammy enjoys it. Whether or not I will is a different story.”
