Aston explains Brambani’s Eagles absence

Sheffield Eegles coach Mark Aston has revealed that reasoning behind leaving experienced half-back Dominic Brambani out of his team at the weekend.

The Eagles travelled to Workington, and emerged from a tough contest as 14-12 victors, with Cory Aston and Kyle Briggs partnering each other in the halves.

But Brambani should see the opportunity to watch from the sidelines as a positive, according to his coach.

“It’s always tough [to leave him out], because Dom’s been around the place for a long, long while,” Aston told Eagles TV.

“But sometimes it’s better for him to sit back and look at it. He needs to take it as a positive.

“We’re still trying to find the balance, and who is the best combination and things like that.

“Everybody’s under the pump. Next week I’ll change it again.

“That’s where we are as a squad, and we need to be strong. Dom’s disciplined, he’s professional, he’ll work hard on the training field to get back in there.

“Sometimes it’s good to sit back, have a look and freshen yourself up. To go through what I’ve been through today, and he’s been through with me, to understand what I’m trying to get to.

“It’s the game management, and I don’t think we’re managing games well.

“Dom’s had a week off, he’ll be fresh next week, and he’ll be ready to go.”

Meanwhile, Australian hooker Blake South last week left Eagles and returned home Down Under, for personal reasons.

He joined the club in the close-season from North Sydney Bears, but did not play a game for the South Yorkshire club.
