Marshall hoping for some Cumbrian cup magic for Halifax

Halifax coach Richard Marshall is hoping that his team’s first home league win of the season can give them a boost in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

Fax travel to Cumbria to face Barrow Raiders in the foruth round of the Cup on Sunday, and Marshall is expecting a tough test.

“We are going into the game off the back of our first home win of the season against Dewsbury so we are feeling really confident,” he said.

“However, Barrow are a good outfit, they have some really strong players and I know that they’ll be fired up for this game. They have the home advantage which is important, it will be tough going up to Cumbria.

“Despite them being in the league below us, I don’t think there will be a massive divide between class and talent after seeing them play, it’s not going to be easy.

“We are really looking forward to the game, we have a lot of respect for the Cup.

“It would be great to progress to the next round and get picked to play one of the big boys.

“It would be great for the club and will be one step closer to the final. We need to keep our confidence high and then I believe we can go far.

“I have been fortunate enough to go to Challenge Cup finals and to win as assistant coach with Warrington. I understand the honour and prestige and the responsibility that comes with it.

“I have fond memories of the Cup as a player, it’s a brilliant competition.”
