Knowles wants more focus from Eagles

Sheffield Eagles back rower Michael Knowles has called for greater consistency in games from his team.

The Eagles beat Oldham 44-20 at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday, but Knowles felt that Mark Aston’s team only played well in patches.

“There were parts in the game where we turned it on and they just couldn’t cope with us,” he told Eagles TV.

“But then there was indiscipline, and we go away from the game plan, instead of sticking to it, and grinding 80 minutes out, we play for 50, 60 minutes and then we let teams back in.

“We’ve got a tough month coming up and we can’t afford to be doing that.

“We need everyone singing off the same hymn sheet.

“If you watch half of the game, then we click, and when we do, that’s it.

“There’s been a lot of changes in positions and stuff like that, he [Mark Aston] is trying to find the right formula.

“But when we do find it, I think we’ll click.”

Knowles is still struggling with the effects of a hand injury he sustained this season. He is battling through the discomfort, however, as he looks to make more personal progress this season.

“I’m still suffering a bit with it, I’ve got a loss of grip,” he said.

“I’ve hurt my other hand today as well. But you just get through it, it’s what you have to do.

“I’ve got a lot of improving to do, but I’m happy with where I am now.

“We’re only into six or seven games. It’s a long season, and I just want to get better across the season.”
