Dewsbury centre Joe Wardill forced to retire for second time due to injury
Dewbsury centre Joe Wardill has been forced to retire for a second time due to issues with his hip.
The 23-year-old initially retired from the game in April 2019 while at Hull KR, for whom he made 17 appearances for.
Wardill hoped to make a return to rugby league when he joined Championship side Dewsbury ahead of this season – but his hip injury has resurfaced and has left him with no other option than to hang up his boots.
Dewsbury coach Lee Greenwood explains: “It’s a real shame for Joe and us.
“He came into pre-season pain free and was looking good in training but over the last couple months his hip problems have resurfaced.
“I’m sure we could have managed him in order to play the odd game but we need to think about his health and well-being going forward.
“As sad as it is for him, he has made the right decision and this will allow him to concentrate on his study and work without the worry of not being able to walk properly or get out of bed.
“On behalf of the club I wish him all the very best in the future.”
