The Morning After: Widdop shines, Holmes outstanding & Leeds resilient in defeat
The Morning After looks at three talking points from the latest Super League action.
Widdop shines
Gareth Widdop put in a man of the match performance to inspire Warrington to a 44-12 victory over Leigh yesterday.

It was the best Widdop has played in a Warrington shirt. He scored two tries and was at the heart of everything the Wolves did in attack.
His combination with Blake Austin in the halves looks to be blossoming and if they can both reach the top of their game, then the Wolves have the potential to do some good things this season.
Holmes outstanding
Oliver Holmes put in one helluva shift to help Castleford pull off a hard fought 18-10 victory against Leeds to maintain their winning start to the season.
Holmes opened the scoring for the Tigers but his work off the ball was even more impressive. He was absolutely everywhere in defence and didn’t put a foot wrong.
Daryl Powell’s side were solid yesterday – and you get the feeling there is still more to come from them. The spine is looking very good and the forwards are very hard-working, so the signs are promising for the Tigers.
Leeds resilient in defeat
It wasn’t the result Leeds would have been hoping for yesterday – but they were resilient in defeat and can take a lot of positives out of the game.
The Rhinos’ youngsters stood up to the test well and showed they are more than capable of playing at this year. Jack Broadbent plays with a wise head on young shoulders and gets better every time he plays. Corey Hall and Alex Sutcliffe also had impressive games.
Leeds were without a number of senior players and they were in the game throughout. They face reigning Super League champions St Helens in the Challenge Cup next week as they look to return to winning ways.
