Rugby union game forces Catalans to re-schedule Cup tie
Catalans Dragons have been compelled to push the kick-off time for their Challenge Cup tie with Featherstone back to 7pm local time.
This is due to a rugby union game taking place in Perpignan at 5pm, at the time that the Challenge Cup tie was due to take place.
A statement from the Dragons reads:
“Catalans Dragons can confirm their home game against Featherstone on Sunday 17 May will now kick-off at 7pm (local time).
“This Challenge Cup sixth round tie at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium was due to start at 5pm, at the same time that Perpignan rugby Union Team USAP home semi-final.”
Featherstone Rovers have confirmed that talks were ongoing throughout Tuesday as to how to best manage the situation, with the RFL, Catalans Dragons and broadcast partners involved in the discussions.
The Dragons will also be providing extensive logistical support to travelling Rovers fans.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused with this late change which unfortunately is out of our control,” Rovers chief executive Pat Cluskey said.
“From a logistical point of view for the players and coaching staff and from a player welfare perspective a kick off time off Sunday 14.30 local time was not practical.
“Catalans Dragons have agreed to arrange and provide transport for supporters who are on the 21.45 flight to London Stansted.
“Catalans Dragons have also confirmed they will provide storage facilities for those with luggage.
“We appreciate this is far from ideal for supporters but when considering all options available to us, this kick off time was the only practical option.
“Having spoken to our travel partners, they have advised supporters to check-in for their flight online and there should be no problem if you arrive at the airport before 21:00 but Featherstone Rovers cannot guarantee this to be case.
“Once again, we would like to apologise to any supporters affected by this late change and wish supporters travelling to France a safe and enjoyable journey.”
