Warrior Grindlay maintaining Aberdeen’s student tradition
Aberdeen Warriors player Angus Grindlay is keeping up his city’s fine tradition of producing Scotland student internationals, after being named in the Scotland squad for the Student Four Nations.
The tournament takes place this weekend at Carlisle Grounds, Bray, in Ireland.
Grindlay the first Warriors player to play for Scotland at U15, U16, U18/19 and Student level. He has also played for the Scotland Development Side U-18s in the other code of rugby.
The Scotland Student side originated at the University of Aberdeen in the 1980s, so the city has a long connection with rugby league.
“Angus is a huge talent and a great player,” said Warriors coach Craig Parslow.
“We identified him in 2013 just before he turned 16 as being a talent and we have helped to develop him.
“He has represented the club now in two Grand Finals and a Cup Final as well as all the the Scotland Youth set-up, and we can’t be more proud of him.
“We wish him and all the other players in the squad all the best in this next week. Having three games in five days is a hard enough task but for these to be test matches is gruelling.”
