Captain’s challenge to be used at World Cup

Players in the Betfred Super League, Championship and League 1 will get to use the captain’s challenge in the World Cup.
It is one of several changes approved by the board of International Rugby League (IRL) ahead of the World Cup in England in October and November.
The recommended changes to the international laws of the game were proposed by the Laws Advisory Group, which is chaired by IRL match official manager Stuart Cummings and has been working to harmonise the laws world-wide.
Cummings, former head of referees at the Rugby Football League, said: “This has been a long and complicated process but we have an excellent outcome and now the international laws can be applied uniformly.”
Other law changes include the implementation of the 20/40 kick, the six-again rule for minor infringements and the shot clock for scrums and drop-outs.
Scrums, which were retained in the NRL, are currently not used in the English game but it is hoped to re-introduce them as the Covid-19 pandemic subsides.
