St Helens must wait to discover extent of James Bentley’s leg injury

St Helens boss Kristian Woolf admits it is too early to diagnose the severity of the leg injury picked up by talented forward James Bentley. 

The 23-year-old Ireland international injured himself in a tackle in the final moments of Saints’ 22-12 win away at winless Leigh and was stretchered from the field of play.

Bentley has appeared in all five Super League matches so far this season, scoring once.

The incident proved to be a sour point after an otherwise professional display from the Super League champions, as they moved back above Wigan into top spot in the Super League standings. 

“We are not quite sure yet [on the injury],” Woolf told St Helens’ official club website.

“It didn’t look very nice on the video. What we do know is that it is a lower leg injury and he certainly has to go and get some x-rays and scans.

“We are hoping for the best, but the indications are that it might not be a real good one but there is no certainty about what it is just yet.

“Whether it’s one week or 10 weeks, we are certainly going to miss him.”
