RFL announce profit for 13th consecutive year

Following its AGM in Leigh this week, the RFL has confirmed that it has made a profit for the 13 successive year.

The meeting was informed that investment around the sport in 2014 had been at a record high.

The results from the recent Super League AGM, coupled with the results from the RFL’s 2014 trading year, saw around £32m invested in the game last year, an increase of 24 per cent on 2013.

“We are delighted that after what was a challenging trading year, the financial results from 2014 once again enabled us to make additional distributions to clubs,” said RFL chief executive Nigel Wood.

“Our balance sheet remains strong and we have been fortunate to be able to add to reserves this year.

“In spite of there being no international Rugby League in this country last year, we were able to exceed our budgeted profit by recording a profit before tax of £295,000.

“Our financial performance in 2014 has left the sport and its member clubs and organisations well placed to make the most of the opportunities afforded by the new league structure.”

Also at the AGM, Huddersfield Giants director Dr Paul Morgan was elected as RFL President for 2015-2106 with Barrow Raiders director Peter Hornby elected as vice-President. Clare Morrow was re-elected as a Non-Executive Director of the RFL.
