Warrington boss Steve Price “really pleased” with contributions of Greg Inglis

Warrington coach Steve Price says he is “really pleased” with how Greg Inglis is contributing to the team after their win over Catalans.

Price opted to play former Australia test centre Greg Inglis in his alternative full-back position in the absence of Matty Ashton and watched him produce a faultless display as the Wolves reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup thanks to a 16-6 win over Catalans.

Ashton will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair torn ankle ligaments and, facing a three-month lay-off, Price may decide to keep Inglis in the full-back spot.

Price said: “We’ll review the game. We’ll manage Greg. It’s important we just keep taking small steps with him and we’ll see where he feels most comfortable.

“Greg understands the game really well and I thought he did a really good job organising our numbers.

“He’s not at his best but, the more games he plays, the quicker he gets his rhythm going. I’m really pleased with how he’s contributing.”

Price praised his players’ defensive resilience as they became the first team to book their place in the semi-finals of the Betfred Challenge Cup with a clinical win over the Dragons.

Hooker Daryl Clark scored two first-half tries and scrum-half Gareth Widdop kicked four goals from five attempts as the Wolves overcame the shock of losing influential playmaker Stefan Ratchford with a groin injury in the warm-up.

That meant a recall for Australian stand-off Blake Austin after a two-match absence and he slotted effortlessly back into the team alongside Widdop to guide the 2019 winners to within 80 minutes of a return trip to Wembley.

Price said: “It was unfortunate losing Stef warming up. It just flared up today. He was keen to play but he couldn’t get that push-off so we made the call.

“Nothing changed for us, Austin came straight in and I thought did a really good job for us. All 17 guys contributed.”
