Championship round-up: Toulouse lead the way, Halifax nil Newcastle & Widnes bounce back
Here’s what happened in each of the six Championship ties played this weekend…
Latrell Schaumkel scored a hat-trick as top of the table Toulouse made it six wins from six against Swinton at Heywood Road.
The French side ran out convincing 66-18 winners, scoring 42 unanswered second half points after a valiant first half display from the Lions. The result means they have now averaged over 61 points in their last four matches.
Featherstone also extended their winning start to the season with a commanding 50-18 victory at Sheffield.
Rovers scored nine times in a game that saw its second half delayed for over 30 minutes due to an unspecified medical incident inside the ground.
Elsewhere, Bradford triumphed 33-8 away at London to record their fifth league win in a row and stay close behind the top two.
Ellis Robson crossed twice after he joined the club on loan earlier this week following the early termination of his brief loan spell at Widnes. Aaron Murphy, Thomas Doyle and Brandon Pickersgill also touched down inside the opening half-hour.
A Will Jubb brace helped York see off struggling Oldham 34-6 at the LNER Stadium.
The City Knights also ran in second half scores through Kieran Dixon, Riley Dean, Matty Marsh and Chris Clarkson.
Halifax kept Newcastle scoreless following a dominant display at Kingston Park.
The Panthers ran out 32-0 winners thanks to tries from James Woodburn-Hall (2), Nick Rawsthorne, Ed Barber and Amir Bourouh.
Widnes recorded just their second victory of the season with a crushing 44-6 victory over Whitehaven.
Adam Lawton scored in either half, while half-back Danny Craven crossed for a second half double at the DCBL Stadium.
Dewsbury’s Heavy Woollen Derby meeting with Batley was postponed earlier this week and will now be replayed later in the year.
The decision was made to allow more spectators to attend when COVID-19 restrictions are eased further.

Dewsbury Rams P-P Batley Bulldogs
