Sheffield confirm exodus of 10 players

Sheffield Eagles have revealed that 10 players will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.

This is mainly due to the South Yorkshire outfit going full-time next season, and many players already having work commitments in place.

Scott Turner, Sam Smeaton, Dominic Brambani, James Davey, Pat Walker, Tony Tonks, Jamie Langley, Eddie Battye, Loto Tagaloa and Ben Musolino will all be leaving the club once the Super 8s Qualifiers are concluded.

“This has been probably the most difficult time of my coaching career so far,” Aston said, according to his club’s official website.

“The last three or four weeks have been particularly tough for me because I have got a lot of respect for these guys. We have to write the next chapter in Sheffield Eagles’ history, but we will always be able to look back with fond memories.

“They have been great, they have been honest and respectful which is what you expect from them.

“This club will always be indebted to them because they have helped us make great strides this year.

“Many of these lads would have been staying with us, but the club has made a commitment to going full-time next year, and some of the lads cannot commit to that because of work or family reasons.”

Aston now wants to make sure that the players who are leaving are given a proper send-off.

“We have to be proud of what we have achieved this year, and the reason we finished third is that we are the third best team in the competition,” he added.

“I thought we had some massive performances this season, and we now want to end on a real high with this group of players.”
