Huddersfield v Salford to go ahead after no new COVID-19 cases reported

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that Friday’s Super League game against Salford Red Devils will go ahead as planned as they welcome back home fans for the first time in over 15 months.

The Giants were forced to postpone last week’s game against Wigan after seven positive COVID-19 cases were reported within their playing group.

With a number of other squad members deemed close contacts, the RFL forced the closure of their training ground, despite the club reportedly being keen to fulfil the fixture with the players that remained available.

Ahead of Ian Watson being reunited with his former employers, the Giants were only able to name an initial 17-man squad as a number of players waiting for RFL clearance to return.

However, they have since been able to add Ronan Michael, Louis Senior, Owen Trout and Aidan Sezer, with no positive cases reported after the latest round of testing.

Confirmation of Friday’s fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium means Leeds Rhinos’ trip to Perpignan to face Catalans Dragons is the only game from round 10 to be postponed so far.
