George Williams says Canberra farewell following exit

Half-back George Williams says he “loved” his time at Canberra Raiders as he plans his move back to the UK.

The England international, who was officially released by the club earlier in June, has penned his farewell on social media.

He wrote: “I want to first off thank Canberra Raiders for giving me the opportunity to fulfil my dream of playing in Australia. I loved my time in the NRL and the challenge it brought week in-week out.

“Thank you to the fan members for all of the support through the ups and downs, your messages haven’t gone unnoticed. To the players; my teammates of the last 18 months, I love you lads. I’ve made friendships memories for life, and will be forever grateful for how you took me in.

“Not everything always ends in a perfect way, but I can honestly say I loved my time at Canberra. Regardless of how things ended, I’m proud to be Raider #364. For now, I can’t wait to get home to my family and friends. See you all soon.”

Williams has been linked with a move to Warrington and Wigan, with the former said to be leading the race to land the 26-year-old as they seek a replacement for fellow England and Great Britain international Gareth Widdop, who is reportedly eyeing up a return to the NRL.
