Doncaster have signed Jason Tali from Newcastle Thunder, with the 28-year-old centre signing a one-year deal.

The Papua New Guinea international was on trial at Newcastle rugby union club recently, but has opted to return to the 13-man code.

“This is a massive signing for our club,” said Dons head coach Gary Thornton.

“To be able to attract and then sign a player of Jason’s ability is a fantastic achievement for all concerned.

“As a current Papua New Guinea international, his experience of playing in a World Cup will be invaluable to our younger players.

“He has power and athleticism out wide and will provide a real genuine strike threat for us out in the centres.

“He’s a proven try scorer and even through an injury ravaged season last year at Newcastle, he still managed to score 14 tries in 13 appearances.

“I’m sure he’ll be a huge hit amongst the Doncaster fans – we have a real exciting back line coming together, and Jason really adds to the quality in the squad. Again, he was a target for other clubs and shows how highly rated he is within the game.”
