Kear happy with Welsh youngsters ahead of France test
Wales coach John Kear believes that his playes are in good shape, ahead of what should be a testing clash with France in Cardiff on Friday evening.
Wales played Keighley Cougars last weekend in the Danny Jones Memorial Match, and Kear was very pleased with with what he saw from his players.
Young St Helens winger Regan Grace, in particular, caught Kear’s eye with his display in Yorkshire.
“We took part in the match for Danny’s family to help raise money for them but we were pleased to have the run out and look over players,” said the Wales coach.
“There were a number of good individual performances but I was very impressed with Regan Grace.
“St Helens have got yet another good kid coming through the system that they’ve scouted in Wales and been developed by the club. He looked very excited indeed and is a magnificent prospect.
“I was really pleased with what I saw against Keighley on Sunday and this helped me with selection for Friday. I thought Rob Massam on the other wing looked very solid too when he came on so there was strong competition for places.
“I had more questions answered with last Sunday’s match than those posed and I think it’s helped us pick a strong squad for Friday. It’ll need to be strong as we know the tough challenge that France will pose.”
