Catalans talks with Mason continue

Willie Mason may yet secure a move to Super League with negotiations with Catalans Dragons continuing.

It was reported earlier this week by Rugby League Week in Australia that Mason’s deal with the Dragons had collapsed, with Catalans unable to come to terms with the Australian front-rower, and the forward was likely to retire from professional rugby league.

But a spokesman from the French club confirmed today that discussions with the 35-year old remain ongoing.

On Tuesday Mason tweeted: “If everyone listened to rumours about my career I would have been finished in 2009!”.

The colourful prop, an Australian citizen who was born in New Zealand, is attempting to gain a Samoan passport, which would help him enter Super League.

Mason played for Manly in 2015, scoring one try in 20 appearances.

He has played for five different clubs in the NRL and had a controversial stint with Hull KR four years ago.

The forward has also represented Tonga on three occasions and the Kangaroos 24 times.
