Richardson quits NRL

Shane Richardson has quit his role at the NRL to take up the general manager’s role at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Richardson had been in the role at League Central for nine months, and had introduced blueprints for the introduction of the Platinum League to replace the NSW Cup during his time at the NRL.

Richardson will now take up a role to work above Rabbitohs’ head coach Michael Maguire, in which he will try and steady the ship after a controversial period for the club with Luke Keary walking out of a bonding session.

ARLC Chairman John Grant thanked the efforts of Richardson during his time at the head office, and insists the blueprints he developed will be implemented in the future.

“He has completed the strategy and has been offered a long term role at Souths so this is the logical time to make the change,” Grant told foxsports.com.au.

“His experience at the NRL has given him a unique insight into the game that he did not have before and he leaves on the best of terms.”

Richardson said that although he thoroughly enjoyed his time at League Central, he has expressed his excitement at taking up his new role at the Rabbitohs.

“I really enjoyed the experience of working at NRL headquarters but this new role – and its direct involvement with the players and the game – is what I want to do next in life,” he said.

“I am looking forward to moving from a strategic role back to the coal face.”
